Inflammation ontology design pattern: an exercise in building a core biomedical ontology with descriptions and situations.

چکیده
Formal ontology has proved to be an extremely useful tool for negotiating intended meaning, for building explicit, formal data sheets, and for the discovery of novel views on existing data structures. This paper describes an example of application of formal ontological methods to the creation of biomedical ontologies. Addressed here is the ambiguous notion of inflammation, which spans across multiple linguistic meanings, multiple layers of reality, and multiple details of granularity. We use UML class diagrams, description logics, and the DOLCE foundational ontology, augmented with the Description and Situation theory, in order to provide the representational and ontological primitives that are necessary for the development of detailed, flexible, and functional biomedical ontologies. An ontology design pattern is proposed as a modelling template for inflammations.

Query Architecture Expansion in Web Using Fuzzy Multi Domain Ontology
Due to the increasing web, there are many challenges to establish a general framework for data mining and retrieving structured data from the Web. Creating an ontology is a step towards solving this problem. The ontology raises the main entity and the concept of any data in data mining. In this paper, we tried to propose a method for applying the "meaning" of the search system, But the problem ...
متن کاملCOPI: Cross-Contextual Information Management for the Semantic Desktop
Knowledge work is characterized by personal processes that describe complex tasks in which information is utilized in different contexts. The semantic desktop has been coined as a middleware that supports such work processes better than current desktops and associated applications: Today, implicit data models and proprietary data formats inhibit cross-contextual information management. Informat...
متن کاملUsing Pattern Structures for Analyzing Ontology-Based Annotations of Biomedical Data
Annotating data with concepts of an ontology is a common practice in the biomedical domain. Resulting annotations, i.e., data-concept relationships, are useful for data integration whereas the reference ontology can guide the analysis of integrated data. Then the analysis of annotations can provide relevant knowledge units to consider for extracting and understanding possible correlations betwe...
متن کاملDeveloping a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information
With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...
متن کاملAn Ontology Design Pattern for supporting behaviour arbitration in cognitive agents
In this paper we present an Ontology Design Pattern for the definition of situation-driven behaviour selection and arbitration models for cognitive agents. The proposed pattern relies on the descriptions and situations ontology pattern, combined with a frame-based representation scheme. Inspired by the affordance theory and behaviour-based robotics principles, our reference model enables the de...
